November colours from Ord Ban Aviemore

November colours from Ord Ban, Aviemore.

Sunday 1st November was a day marked by heavy rain across the country, causing even football matches to be cancelled! We enjoyed the Autumn colours that morning with a short walk on Ord Ban near Aviemore. Ord Ban is a fine viewpoint above Loch an Eilein, and the walk round the Loch could be combined with the hill to make a longer outing. The path up the hill is directly opposite the car park from Loch an Eilein, but we decided to try a different route for a change, approaching it from the South West from the A970. A nice track through the trees, unfortunately blocked by deer fences, led us to the heathery summit.

We explored a different way down, and marvelled at the fact that chanterelle were still growing in November! The specimens weren't worth picking but those and many other wild fungi provided points of interest all the way down.

There is so much to see and do around the Rothiemurchus Forest, that make it an ideal outdoor holiday destination. We stayed in the holiday cottage which we share with friends, Creag Mhor, a real home from home! You too could be enjoying this magnificent countryside!
