Stob Ghabhar, the Black Mount.
What a truly marvellous April day for hill walking in Scotland on Stob Ghabhar, the Black Mount. I have seldom enjoyed a day so still, in the mountains of Scotland. Not a breath of wind as we passed the mill pond of Loch Tulla before starting our walk from the car park near Victoria Bridge and Forest Lodge.
The stalkers path up Stob a' Choire Odhair is a delight, allowing swift access to the stunning summit views over Rannoch Moor and the Bridge of Orchy Hills. An easy descent through patches of snow brought us to the col and the intimidating icy climb up the Aonach Eagach. Once the summit ridge is reached, the pure joy of seeing so many snow capped hills is almost unbearable. The list reads of the top mountains in the Central Highlands, Ben Lui, Ben Cruachan, Ben Starav, Bidean nam Bian, Buachaille Etive Mor, Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg, the Bridge of Orchy hills just sublime!
Truly a day to remind us what hill walking in Scotland is all about!
